Chainsaw Chain Fitment Guide

CHAINSAW CHAIN FITMENT GUIDE

A replacement chain must match the bar and drive system specification exactly.

Pitch · Gauge · Drive links · Bar length · Cutter type

THE 3 NUMBERS THAT MATTER MOST

  • Pitch — e.g. 1/4″, .325″, 3/8″, 3/8″ LP, .404″
  • Gauge — e.g. .043″, .050″, .058″, .063″
  • Drive link count — e.g. 40DL, 52DL, 72DL

HOW TO READ A CHAIN SPECIFICATION

Example: 3/8″ LP · .050″ · 52DL

  • 3/8″ LP = chain pitch
  • .050″ = drive-link gauge
  • 52DL = number of drive links

COMMON FITMENT MISTAKES

  • Choosing a chain based only on bar length
  • Confusing 3/8″ with 3/8″ low profile
  • Using the wrong gauge
  • Not confirming drive-link count
  • Assuming all chains for the same saw model are identical
