CHAINSAW CHAIN FITMENT GUIDE
A replacement chain must match the bar and drive system specification exactly.
Pitch · Gauge · Drive links · Bar length · Cutter type
THE 3 NUMBERS THAT MATTER MOST
- Pitch — e.g. 1/4″, .325″, 3/8″, 3/8″ LP, .404″
- Gauge — e.g. .043″, .050″, .058″, .063″
- Drive link count — e.g. 40DL, 52DL, 72DL
HOW TO READ A CHAIN SPECIFICATION
Example: 3/8″ LP · .050″ · 52DL
- 3/8″ LP = chain pitch
- .050″ = drive-link gauge
- 52DL = number of drive links
COMMON FITMENT MISTAKES
- Choosing a chain based only on bar length
- Confusing 3/8″ with 3/8″ low profile
- Using the wrong gauge
- Not confirming drive-link count
- Assuming all chains for the same saw model are identical
